Battle of the 3D Phones
In the fast-moving mobile world of technology, the possibilities seem endless as Sprint and LG show off their versions of 3D smartphones.
Both 3D smartphones are incredibly powerful with glasses-free 3D displays and dual-lens cameras that allow you to shoot 3D photos and video.
When given to the 'Techies', they carried out various tests to rate and compare the quality of the two phones against a Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D on a Panasonic TC-P50ST30 3D HDTV. They judged the photos on clarity, colour, and the density of the 3D effect; and they rated video for playback smoothness, clarity, and 3D density. They stated, although it is really tricky to judge the quality of 3D on such a small surface, it also comes down to the individual and how they perceive 3D, in some cases, some people can't see 3D at all.
Whilst carrying out these tests, the editors agreed that the phones are extremely finicky about their positioning; you have to keep each one directly in front of your face in order for you to see the 3D effect. If you move the phone, even slightly, the 3D effect fades. There were also some issues with the quality of the colours, but where one phone lacked in some key features, the other phone picked them up.
The experts believe that 3D technology on a mobile device will face difficulties, as of today, it is clearly in its development stage. As 3D technology starts to mature and more models are being designed, will smartphones incorporate this technology into its market permanently, or is it merely an extra frill at this point?
